God is Working on It

I guess we all occasionally fall into the trap of thinking that if we see nothing happening, it means that nothing is happening. Even as Christians we sometimes forget that reality, especially our reality, is a function of what we see AND what we don’t see. Nothing is more frustrating than waiting on an outcome or answer in what appears to be prolonged silence and inactivity. The days and hours are longer, and time seems to be moving at a glacial speed. I am pretty sure that one of the most frequent prayers that God hears from us is “When Lord?!” When will the pain go away, when will I get what I am believing for or when will this person change? We wait, expecting, forgetting, trusting, and doubting all at the same time.
While on some level we all believe that God will eventually work it out sometime in the future, it is an equal fact that in the present God is actively working on your situation. This thought brought me comfort because it meant that in every minute and moment, God is actively working on the things that concern me. We want the outcome as quickly as possible but He is most concerned about the process. Remember the refining works that He promises will make us more like Christ. He also uses His supremacy and sovereignty to work on and coordinate our wants and those of others in the unique interplay that only He can.
He knows you need time to prepare; to do the things He’s been asking you to do while He works on what only He can do. While actively working on your situation He has to touch a person's heart to give you favour or He has to work on other areas of life so they won’t sabotage the gift He is preparing. God is actively working on it and not because you see nothing happening, it means nothing is.

Two great examples of this truth from the Bible come to mind. In Daniel 10, Daniel earnestly prayed and fasted for understanding regarding visions he had received. God immediately sent an angel to answer Daniel's prayer. However, a spiritual entity, obstructed the angel's path, delaying his arrival for 21 days. The archangel Michael was sent to assist the angel and overcome the spiritual entity. This account vividly highlights the activities at play in the spiritual realm, even while we fervently pray and wait. God is working while we are waiting.
The next story is found in 2 Kings 6 when the prophet Elisha and his servant were surrounded by an enemy army of horses and chariots. I believe the servant being overcome with fear, asks, "What shall we do?” and the prophet Elisha replies, "Don't be afraid. Those who are with us are more than those who are with them". Elisha then prays to God to open the servant's eyes which the Lord does, and the servant sees the hills full of an angelic army of horses and chariots of fire. God gave the servant insight into a reality many of us forget, especially in this modern world of widespread and accessible information.
Prayer is a reminder that our communication isn’t empty and that God hears us. He leans in when we whisper, He wipes the tears that roll down our cheeks and, He holds us tightly when our souls feel crushed. We know that in this life we will have varying times and seasons interspersed with good and bad, as Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us.
The fact is that God is always near and always working on our wants, needs, and concerns. All we do is not all that’s happening and all that’s happening is well beyond what we see. God doesn’t need our help to do what He must do, but HE needs us to trust that He is working on the things that concern us.
Right at this moment, whatever it may be, God is working on it, to bring about the good outcomes He promises for his children.
Love Ya!
